Danny C. Martinez
is a Field Research Assistant who coordinates program implementation and
professional development for the project. He received his B.A. in American
Literature and Culture & Chicana/o Studies with a minor in Educational
Studies from UCLA, and M.A. from UC Berkeley in Education: Language, Literacy
and Culture. He taught middle school ESL in the San Francisco Unified School
District, and was a high school ESL and English teacher, as well as college
advisor in the Los Angeles Unified School District. At UCLA he has taught in
the Educational Studies minor program, provided field supervision to
pre-service teachers in the Teacher Education Program, and has conducted
research and curriculum development that treats the language practices of non-dominant
youth as a resource for learning. Currently, Danny is a doctoral student in
UCLA’s Graduate School of Education and Information Studies in the Division of
Urban Schooling. His research interests include sociocultural perspectives on
language and literacy development, language policy, and sociolinguistic and
linguistic anthropological research applications to learning among non-dominant
social groups.
