Marco A. Diaz started his career as a math teacher in Los Angeles Unified School District. At John Marshall HS and at South Gate High School Marco had the opportunity to work as a bilingual instructor with English Learner students and taught the full range of the secondary mathematics curriculum. Marco has also worked as a secondary mathematics professional development and curriculum specialist while working for UC Berkeley’s Lawerence Hall of Science. In this capacity he helped to coordinate professional development activities across schools and school districts in the San Francisco Bay area. Recently Marco has been working on a doctoral degree in Education at UCLA. While finishing graduate school Marco has worked as a math coach and then as a Full time lecturer at California State University Northridge. Marco’s research is focused on the use of language to develop mathematical knowledge in secondary schools, the mathematics education of English Learner students and the preparation of mathematics teachers to develop strategies that develop the academic language necessary for success in secondary schools.
