Megan Hopkins
Research Associate, Project SOL

Megan Hopkins is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the School of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University. Her research interests include education policy and teacher leadership with a focus on creating equitable educational opportunities for English learners and immigrant students. Prior to moving to Northwestern, Megan was the Evaluation Research Associate for Project Secondary Online Learning (SOL) at the Civil Rights Project/Proyecto Derechos Civiles. She currently monitors data collection and facilitates data analysis and reporting for Project SOL. Megan received her Ph.D. in Education from UCLA’s Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, and she holds an M.Ed. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a B.A. from Indiana University. She is a former bilingual elementary school teacher and has also worked as a supervisor and instructor for pre-service and novice teachers in Los Angeles. Recent publications include
Forbidden Language: English Learners and Restrictive Language Policies,
published by Teachers College Press in 2010. Forthcoming is “Arizona’s Teacher Policies and Their Relationship with English Learner Instructional Practice,” to be published in Language Policy in 2012.
