Civil Rights Data Collection

These documents consist of CRP's efforts to improve the U.S. Department of Education's collection of and the public's access to civil rights data from schools, districts and individuals.

Research Item Response to the Release of the 2009-10 Civil Rights Data, 03.08.12
The Civil Rights Project commends the U.S. Department of Education for recent changes to the Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC) and for 03/06/12 public release of the 2009-10 school year data. Recent changes include the collection of data on school discipline and referrals to law enforcement by schools, school-based arrests and the inclusion of state-operated juvenile detention facilities in the CRDC survey. The letter details shortcomings of the data and calls for annual reporting on school discipline methods by all schools -- not just a sample -- and for timely reporting by schools and stepped-up enforcement of civil rights law about the disparate impact of discipline policy.
