Herbert Sosa

Herbert Sosa is a National Academy of Education/Spencer postdoctoral fellow who received a PhD in American history from the University of Michigan in 2013.  During the 2015-2016 academic year, he will call the Civil Rights Project, UCLA, his academic home as he conducts research at the Young Special Library, UCLA for his book manuscript about the Los Angeles school desegregation lawsuit, Mary Crawford v. Los Angeles City Board of Education.  His research interests include: civil rights; comparative race and ethnicity; urban and suburban history; social and political history; race and class inequality; identity formation; law; immigration; and education. In his dissertation about the Los Angeles school desegregation lawsuit that lasted from 1963-1989, he examined how powerful legal and political institutions generated and influenced political identities and ideologies through various forms of policy-making.
