Administrative Advocacy

CCRR will begin to actively redress large racial disparities in identification, placement and discipline for students with disabilities. These efforts will use available administrative avenues, such as filing complaints with the state or federal department of education, to prompt school districts to examine large disparities and intervene where appropriate.

Research Item Complaint filed against the Durham Public School District
This Complaint, filed by Advocates for Children's Services of Legal Aid of North Carolina ("ACS") and the Center for Civil Rights Remedies at the Civil Rights Project of UCLA ("CRP") alleges that the frequent use of out-of-school suspension in the public schools of Durham, North Carolina, violates the U.S. Department of Education's regulations interpreting Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
