In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decisions upholding affirmative action, Higher Education and the Color Line outlines the agenda for achieving racial justice in higher education in the next generation. Research Item Building on Success: Educational Diversity and Equity in Kentucky Higher Education
This comprehensive study of equity in the entire Kentucky system not only assesses the state's progress under plans developed to comply with federal civil rights law over the past 26 years, but also recommends strategies for the next generation.

Twenty-First Century Color Lines offers a wide variety of new perspectives about moving from the traditional racial issues of the U.S. toward an understanding of a vastly more complex multiracial setting.
Research Item Latino Educational Opportunity: A Volume in New Directions for Community College Series
Although research has increasingly examined the influence of various contributors to Latino educational opportunity, such as immigration policy, language, and academic achievement, the profound and confounding influence of these factors and others not previously considered remains under-explored. The studies presented in this volume of New Directions for Community Colleges aim to foster a better understanding of the ways and extent to which community colleges provide Latino students with educational access and opportunity.
Research Item The CSU Crisis and California's Future: A Note on the Series
This series of reports is designed to analyze the impact of the fiscal cutbacks on opportunity for higher education in the California State University system, the huge network of 23 universities that provide the greatest amount of BA level of education in the state. The CSU has a much larger undergraduate student body than the University of California system and educates a much larger group of Latino and African American students. Many CSU students are first generation college students struggling to get an education in difficult times.
Research Item Two Studies of a Faculty in Crisis
These reports are the second in a series of independent original studies designed to analyze the impact of fiscal cutbacks in the CSU system on higher education opportunities. The Civil Rights Project is particularly interested in these issues because the CSU system is an extremely important pathway for opening opportunity to historically excluded groups of Latino, African American and poor students in California.
Research Item The CSU Crisis and California's Future: Authors and Abstracts
These reports analyze the impact of the fiscal cutbacks on opportunity for higher education in the California State University system, the huge network of 23 universities that provides the bulk of bachelor-level education in the state. The CSU has a much larger undergraduate student body than the University of California system and educates a much larger group of Latino and African American students. Many CSU students are first-generation college students struggling to get an education in difficult times.
Research Item Building Pathways to Transfer: Community Colleges that Break the Chain of Failure for Students of Color
This paper calls for doing five things that we believe are necessary to shift the focus to the needs of the ever-growing numbers of African American and Latino students who enter the postsecondary system from K-12 schools that have not prepared them for college.
Research Item Race, Class, and College Access: Achieving Diversity in a Shifting Legal Landscape
This report was produced by Pearson, ACE and the CRP to broaden the understanding of the work and challenges facing institutions and further much-needed dialogue on how they can best respond to a shifting policy and legal landscape at a time when access to postsecondary education has never been more vital and our American citizenry never so diverse.
