Li Yan
Li Yan is a joint PhD student (visiting research scholar) from Southwest University, China, awarded a scholarship under the State Scholarship Fund of China Scholarship Council (CSC) to pursue her study in the US. She is hosted by the UCLA Civil Rights Project/Proyecto Derechos Civiles and will conduct research on language policy and planning (LPP) with the supervision of Prof. Patricia Gándara from Oct., 2016 to Oct., 2017. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English Education and a master's degree in Applied Linguistics from China. Li Yan served as an English lecturer for two years from 2002 to 2004 in Changsha, China. And she has ever been an English editor in academic publishing on ELT and linguistics for nine years since 2006 in Beijing, China as well. Currently, her research focus is LPP between China and US on ethnic minorities and how it relates to the construction of national identity. She has also been interested in bilingual education and bilingualism for language-minority students and immigrant students.
