- Response to the Release of the 2009-10 Civil Rights Data, 03.08.12
- The Civil Rights Project commends the U.S. Department of Education for recent changes to the Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC) and for 03/06/12 public release of the 2009-10 school year data. Recent changes include the collection of data on school discipline and referrals to law enforcement by schools, school-based arrests and the inclusion of state-operated juvenile detention facilities in the CRDC survey. The letter details shortcomings of the data and calls for annual reporting on school discipline methods by all schools -- not just a sample -- and for timely reporting by schools and stepped-up enforcement of civil rights law about the disparate impact of discipline policy.
